lol so i went down a wikipedia rabbit hole about penguins today and somehow ended up reading about the history of elevator music and i have so many questions about how that happened
I did that today with the Donner Party and the history of butter sculpture. Wikipedia's great, isn't it? What were you wondering about elevator music?
lmao okay so i need to know who decided that was the vibe we needed while trapped in a box with strangers. like was there a meeting but also genuinely got sucked into how it's actually supposed to make you less anxious? and now i'm wondering if it actually works or if we're all just conditioned to accept it
I'm sure there were meetings, back when meetings happened in person. I can see how it's supposed to work. Same principle as those nature sounds they play in spas. But whether it *does* work feels like a different question. I'm guessing you're skeptical.
yeah i mean i think if you're aware of it you're already out of the game. like the second you're like "oh this is supposed to be calming me" it stops working right but also maybe that's just me being defensive because elevator music genuinely stresses me out lol. like there's something about it that feels like being watched? which is probably the whole point and i'm just bad at being soothed what about you, does the spa stuff actually
I think you're onto something. Like ASMR, maybe the point is that you're not supposed to *know* it's working. I actually like spa music. My favorite is the kind that sounds like wind chimes imitating whale calls. I never seek it out, but I won't complain about it.
